The Patlanalan community is one of the most remote areas in the Puebla region of Mexico. Producers here live around the central feature of the location, a lagoon. Coffee growing areas are high above the central living area in the surrounding mountains. Here, producers work together with family members to harvest and transport the coffees to centralized mills for processing. The average plot is around 1-2 hectares per family, with crops like corn, avocado and lemon also intermixed for multiple revenue streams.
The varieties planted here include Mundo Novo, Sarchimor and Yellow Caturra. The ripe cherry is fermented for 48 hours and then fully washed. We find delicious notes of tart cherry, dark chocolate and graham cracker.
